The Females are Finally Here
After nearly a month of only male flowers on my Zucchini plants the female flowers, that turn into the Zucchini have finally started to show up. I currently have 4 plants and 2 of them have at least one female flower that is about ready to bloom.
I have been reading extensively about artificially pollinating the female Zucchini flower, and I am considering doing this because my garden has a serious lack of bees. I have not put many flowers around the garden yet, and I don’t think I am going to this season.

- Female Zuccini Flower
In all of my reading I have found that Zucchini flowers open early in the morning so I am going to set an alarm for the next few days to get up around sun rise and check on them every few minutes!

Lucky you, female flowers already! I often do hand pollinating of my female squash flowers – not hard at all, just pick a male, strip it of petals and swish it around on the female flowers. It guarantees success – I just hate it when my female squash wither and die because they didn’t get pollinated!

I had one female flower already die, but I just think it was a bad flower to begin with. It was only about an inch long and about 1/8th of an inch thick before it turned yellow then brown!
These will be my first Zucchini and I am quite excited to taste them fresh! Both my wife and I love Zucchini, grilled, stuffed, in a shish kabob really in just about any way possible!
