Tips and Ideas for a beautiful garden this Autumn

The crisp fresh morning air is feeling ever colder by the day. Leaves falling from trees cover the lawn like a blanket of yellow and orange confetti. Blossoms have ceased and roses have withered as the darker nights are upon us. It is a time of year when Gardens take a rest and sit back as though they have aged with time and no longer have the energy to produce, sprout and energise. The season of Autumn is here. However, Autumn is a great time to think of Gardening. There are many ways you can make your Autumn Garden look amazing and I wanted to give you some ideas on how you can get to work now and create a beautiful vista to feast your eyes on this year.

Create Floral Bedding

Pick an area of your garden which the sun tends to shine on when it comes out. That will be the best place to plant any flowers you choose for you Autumn beds. If you have already prepared for this Autumn you may have chosen such flowering plants as Begonia, Dahlia, Sternbergia and Crocus. These will be budding this autumn so they will make a gorgeous addition to any Autumn Garden. Snowdrop and Winter Aconite are still flowered in Winter and these are quite hardy and a good option for this time of year. Choosing flowers to suit your garden will be best seen in person and you may decide to visit your local Garden Centre and see what they have on offer. Once bought you can transfer them ready and straight in to your beds.

Shrubs and Grasses give Added Definition

To complete your Autumn garden you need the right amount of contrast and added texture to create the untamed and natural look that goes hand in hand with the season. Adding grasses and shrubs can be an effective way to cover ground as you don’t want to be looking at bare soil even in the less productive seasons. Try adding such shrubs as Daphne Bholua and Springwood White as these flower during autumn and add a touch of beauty and colour. A clematis wall shrub can add coverage all year round and sometimes the flowers will last into late October. The Heavenly Blue is a great addition as a climber and again the beauty of the blue coloured bell shaped flowers adds another aspect to your Autumn Garden. You can choose any combination you like as you will get a feel for what suits you and your style of garden and make it your own.
