Record Rainfall for May

I live, and garden, in a city known as Deltona, FL. Deltona is located just out side of Orlando in Central Florida. Normmaly in the month of May Deltona would see only about 3.5” of rain. There was nothing normal about this month. May 2009 rainfall for Deltona, FL was over 20”. We saw record numbers for many days strait. In the span of 7 days, May 18-24 Deltona received 13.43” inches of rain! That much rain was harmful to the garden to say the least!

My Bell Peppers took the beating the worst!

These plants were bushy, growing fast and starting to flower. Well the rain knocked all the flowers off and started to drown the plants. They shed a good amount of their leaves many of the leaves that are left are looking sad.

The sun did not shine for that entire week so not only did the garden get virtually drown, everything was starting to droop. Nothing looked good and water was constantly on everything!

Now that may is over, and the rain has gone back to a much more normal amount, the garden is starting to recover! I hope this trend continues!
