Fall Zucchini – Avoid Pickle Worms

One of the biggest hurdles to growing Zucchini in parts of Zone 9 is the dreaded Pickle Worm. The attack the flowers and fruit of Zucchini and make them inedible. But the breeding season for the moth that creates pickle worms is over in the late fall.

Planting Zucchini in the fall gives a little bit shorter growing season, but it is often more productive because of the lack of pests. Late August through September is a great time to plant Zucchini. It does well starting indoors or direct sow!
